About Me

Ming Hu, a native of Hunan, China, is an accomplished pianist, educator, and collaborator. Hu earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa under the guidance of Dr. Ksenia Nosikova, where she also completed her Master’s degree.

Hu’s musical journey began at the age of four, with professional training at the Wuhan and Shanghai Conservatories. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance with an Accompanying Fellowship at Lawrence University, studying with Catherine Kautsky.

Her accolades include prizes from the Music Teachers National Association Scholarship Competition, Schubert Club Scholarship Competition, the World Piano Teachers Association of Finland Competition, and the International Moscow Music Competition. Hu has performed across Europe, North America, and Asia, and has participated in master classes with distinguished pianists such as Nelita True and Julian Martin.

Besides solo performing, Hu also enjoys collaborating with other musicians. She has served as an accompanist at Finger Lakes Community College (Canandaigua, NY) and the Eastman Community Music School (Rochester, NY). In 2021, Hu debuted Song Cycle – Seasons (Twenty-Four Solar Terms) by Cong Liu with soprano Xingyu Huo on a critically acclaimed recording. An advocate for contemporary music, she continues to champion collaborations with composers and explore innovative repertoire.

Hu strives to cultivate a joyful learning experience that empowers students to discover the transformative power of music. She has honed an approach that emphasizes confidence, creativity, and connection in music education. Her teaching philosophy resonates with the belief that the joy of music lies not just in performing but in sharing it with others.
